Instructions

The following steps are also available at the Graduate School Website.

  • Step 1

    Fill out the on-line application.

    • You will receive an email from the site confirming that your application is processed.
    • The information from the online application will be sent to the University of Houston to create your myUH account. This takes 3-5 business days and an email will be sent to you from the University of Houston when the process is complete.
  • Step 2

    Be prepared to upload the following documents to your application when requested:

    1. Official GRE scores

      Submit scores directly through the Educational Testing Service (the organization that administers the exam) to the University of Houston by using the institutional code 6870.

    2. TOEFL Scores (if applicable)

      Scores are handled and submitted by the same organization as the GRE scores. Students with degrees from U.S. institutions are exempt from the TOEFL exam.

    3. A statement of purpose (Upload)

      A declarative statement which summarizes one’s scholarly interests, research areas, and projected professional goals.

    4. A one-page resume (Upload)

    5. College transcripts

    6. Degree certificates/diplomas (if applicable)

      Degree certificates/diplomas are required if the degrees are not shown on any of the official transcripts. If this is so, official certificates/diplomas must be mailed to the Graduate School along with the official transcripts. Unofficial copies should be uploaded with the unofficial transcripts.

    7. Three letters of recommendation

      The contact information for each person writing a letter of recommendation will be provided by the applicant in the online application.

  • International students must also submit the following:

    1. A Student Address/Photo Identification Form (Upload)

    2. A Letter of Financial Backing (Upload)

    3. A Financial Banking Statement (Upload)

    4. An I-20 Transfer Form (Upload if applicable)

      If applicant already has F1 visa for another U.S. institution

    5. Passport copy (Upload)

  • Step 3

    Wait for an email from the electrical and computer engineering department. We process applications at least once a month and about once a week in the months prior to the submission deadline, so there may be some delay before you hear from us.

  • Fall Semester: February 1
  • Spring Semester: August 1

University Admissions Office or International Admissions Office

Do not send application materials to the University Admissions Office or to the International Admissions Office – these offices only work with programs that do not have their own, internal admissions office. For applications to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, please upload everything through the myUH account.
